Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Is hydrate formation likely to be a problem in a Gas Ejector?

Answer

No.

As the gas undergoes a near isentropic expansion through the motive HP nozzle of the Gas Ejector, conditions favourable for the formation of hydrates at the nozzle tip will undoubtedly exist. However, operational problems will only occur if the solid material is allowed to firstly adhere to the nozzle then build up and eventually block (or partially block) the Gas Ejector.

In the normal course of operation of Gas Ejectors there are several factors at work which prevent this process from occurring and in our experience, hydrate formation does not cause a problem. One must remember that the conditions suitable for hydrate formation only occur at an isolated point within the Gas Ejector.

Further, the temperature at the discharge of the Gas Ejector is always above the hydrate formation temperature, thereby preventing their formation in the flowline.
