Floating Venturi Aerator for oxidation ditch aeration.

Application

Large flow differences at a sewage treatment works produced varying liquor depths in an Oxidation Ditch which created operating problems for an existing Brush Rotor Aerator. Transvac replaced the Brush Rotor with a floating Venturi Aerator to provide 7KgO2/hr maximum oxygen transfer (S.O.R.) and to ensure complete mixing in the
45 m long by 8 m Ditch. The Aerator must handle all seasonal flow variations and require minimal maintenance.

Solution

Transvac installed a 7.0 Kw floating Venturi Aerator / Mixer complete with Control equipment and secured it using steel Hawsers to an existing bridge. The unit was simply dropped into position by Crane and was operational within a few hours. The horizontal jet action rotated the Ditch contents well and ensured complete mixing was achieved. The measured D.O. rose quickly and has been maintained throughout the tourist season.

Transvac Venturi Aerator / Mixers entrain atmospheric air using motive liquid energy from a standard centrifugal pump. Efficient oxygen transfer is achieved by high shear contact within the body of the unit and further contact within it’s turbulent discharge plume.
