Jet mixing on pharmaceutical effluent plant

Application
To prevent stratification of effluent in two 1287 m3 (18m dia. x 5m max. depth) balance tanks on a Pharmaceutical plant. Propeller Mixers were not suitable because the liquor operating levels varied and the client did not want any in-tank maintenance.

Transvac Tank Jet Mixer Operation Diagram

Solution
Transvac installed a stainless steel Jet mixing system on a pipework manifold. A total of seventeen transvac size 4 Jet Mixers were used in each tank discharging four times the liquor flow provided by the motive pump. Additional secondary mixing induced by the Mixer discharge plumes further enhanced the mixing pattern. Using a 15 kW Centrifugal Pump to provide the mixing energy of 11 watts/m3 the Jet mixers induced a tank turnover rate of less than 1.6 hours (at max. liquor level) which ensured the whole contents were thoroughly mixed.

Advantages
  • No moving parts
  • No splashing or aerosol created
  • Operates at variable depths
  • No bridges or bearings used
  • No in-tank maintenance needed
  • Evenly distributes mixing
  • Controllable mixing
  • Simple, reliable and robust
